Back from the Dead...

Well, the pandemic and ensuing chaos that followed changed my world in so many ways. I got caught up in the big push to try and get published, doing everything myself. That is a recipe for disaster from the beginning. The writing world morphed into a brand new animal during Covid. So many people were put out of work or sequestered, so everyone became an author, blogger, artist, home improvement guru, etc.

I will never be and formulaic, 30 day author. Even publishing has adapted to this new way of doing things. Agents will only read three pages of a manuscript and unless you grab them in the first line, they lose interest to continue, even if you have the next great novel. It takes me close to a decade to create my story, fleshing each detail and nuance over that time. I love telling a story in detail, not bullet points in a formula, opting instead for a slow burn.

It's a shame that we have become a society of conformity to today's latest fad or cause giving up on anything that is original unless it portrays the world current standard the people in power wish to market. It's no wonder our society has devolved. I prefer to hope we are better than our differences, and chose tolerance of ALL points of view, not just the flavor of the day. Enough of my rant.

I continue to struggle with the next book. I have a good portion of it written, yet I struggle with my new character. He is dark and makes it difficult to stay in his head too long as it affects my psyche. I am looking forward to the completion of this book to move on to the final story in the series.

I’ve never needed to be more than a small cog in the larger machine. Sometimes this has kept me focused on the minuscule nuances of each...
