I've been on a rant about AI a lot recently. It's not intended to look outward instead of inward for correction. I'm only pointing out the fobiles all humans have and my frustration with them.
Publishing is a hard business to be in or get into. There is a plethora of potential authors begging for their chance. Screening the influx can be all encompassing. It takes time and expertise to become successful, as a client or as the professional.
Being unpublished authors, we can no longer blame the gatekeepers for our failings to find our audience. Just keep learning. I know first hand how it feels to get rejections, or the silent no response from my queries. Every criticism, every rejection, every failure teaches an author more about how it works.
Authors must understand a story needs to have an audience. That does not mean it's a bad story, or that there aren't people who would love to read it. What it means is no one works for FREE. You don't want to as an author either. That's why you want an agent, editor or publisher!
It also means WORK, and lots of it. Learning what works in today's market (not 10 or even 5 years ago), takes time away from writing. Taking a hard look at your book and learning how to write it better.
I've changed in my book so much over the years. What I thought was final continues to shift since querying and working with an editor. Getting closer to finding an agent and publisher is the outcome.
Finding fans is a hefty, every changing learning curve in addition to finding representation. Maybe that's why AI has bothered me so much of recent.
